This is a complete environment design for “T-Market,” a 3,000m² “town market” designed to inspire new food culture located on the second basement floor of the Toranomon Hills Station Tower. The project also includes the designs for BEAVER BREAD BROTHERS and Dam Brewery Restaurant.

The design concept is “to open a courtyard that expands at the city entrance.” Like a park that goes through multiple moods throughout the day—morning, afternoon, evening, and night—we aimed to create a new kind of space where customers can freely decide how they spend their time. For the entry, we avoided using a stereotypical door and instead installed a gate with tunnel-like depth and volume to naturally inspire a change in mood. The traffic flow was also designed by envisioning how a market would organically grow into a dynamic “town.” The market features various tenants that offer high-quality food, food-related items, and other merchandise in a wide range of genres, all of which are organized and positioned organically to camouflage the monotonous feel of the design system. Even the connecting spaces, such as the central corridor caused by an enormous center core structure and the pathway to the restrooms, were adorned with wall decorations by illustrator Yosuke Yamaguchi and transformed into unique “ma” (space) or intervals that link various areas. We designed the entrance to the entire environment; floor, ceiling, and wall settings that serve as the platform to the project; and the common seating conceived in various styles. Rather than relying on a design manual, we also experimented with a non-conventional approach to create uniformity among various tenants by reviewing the submitted designs and incorporating order in the connective areas while considering their relationships with one another. Approximately 200 potted trees were added to bring the ”garden” concept to life. By inviting the participation of Toshio Matsuura (music selection), ZAK (sound director), and Masaki Yasuhara (lighting design), music and lighting also play an important role in enhancing the passing of time.
