MixC Qianhai is a mixed-use complex in Shenzhen, one of China's four largest cities after Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. In addition to commercial facilities, the complex also includes offices, high-end residences, and a luxury hotel on a property that expands to 100,000 square meters. Wonderwall was responsible for the interior design of 25,678 square meters of this project, a five-level commercial facility that houses more than 220 brands.
The concept of the interior design is New Gravities: we envisioned a space that has different "gravities" to design a zoning scheme that responds to new values and diversity. The facility is divided vertically into three separate zones, each area having a unique atrium and design that pertains to its particular theme: QUALITY LIFE, NEWS LIFE, and ART LIFE. QUALITY LIFE is designed to have "Relaxed Gravity," featuring soft curves and a combination of natural and synthetic marbles that exude a luxurious atmosphere. NEWS LIFE has ”Fresh Gravity,” where trends are interpreted as pixels. Combining monitors and glass boxes to depict the buzzing interplay of information, this zone is used to host POP UP STORE and other events that are current and trendy. ART LIFE has "Hyped Gravity" with an edgy design that speaks to the senses. The floors also feature a modern interpretation of the parquet flooring found in historic museums. These three zones co-exist on each floor so that the distinctive design of a particular zone fades out and gradually transitions into the next. The "gravity" of each zone becomes intensified as one moves from the edge to the center, enabling visitors to instinctively recognize which zone they're standing in.
The design incorporates the idea of "scrolling" and "swiping" across the physical space to respond to the various needs and desires of Shenzhen city, where the majority of the residents are Millennials with an average age of 28 years. Our goal was to create a location where, despite its vastness, visitors can find many different spots where they "belong."
