The Repulse Bay Arcade, located within one of Hong Kong’s historic sites.
While inheriting the memory of The Repulse Bay Hotel — a colonial-era building that once stood on this site in the 1920s — we envisioned a fictional story in which a “HUMAN MADE” boutique had existed within the hotel itself.
By reinterpreting the spatial composition of the period and layering the world of HUMAN MADE into the colonial architectural style, the project does not simply recreate the past, but instead overlays a new sense of time onto the heritage, connecting it from the present toward the future. Reinterpreting the memory of colonial architecture and hotel culture as contemporary culture connects to HUMAN MADE’s philosophy, “THE FUTURE IS IN THE PAST.”
Expressing respect for history and culture through a contemporary lens, the project intersects past and future, heritage and culture — including a dedicated “DESCENDANT” corner — to create a cultural space infused with the philosophy of HUMAN MADE.
