OVO® THE GROVE

October 2020 - Los Angeles, USA

OVO® THE GROVE, which opened inside LA's shopping complex The Grove, is a space that inherits the concept of “not making,” which was first developed for OVO® TOKYO. This idea was inspired by Japan’s “Mono-ha” movement and has to do with not intervening and presenting elements as unadulterated objects. "Mono-ha" was an important trend that could be interpreted as anti-artistic, appearing in the Japanese art world from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. With only neutral and natural elements such as mortar, iron, stone, wood, and glass, the design dismantles the subject-object relationship to create a space that embraces Japanese ambiguity. Granite is used for the façade and the floors to create a direct contrast between the material's imposing presence and the brand's street culture items, a calculated mismatch that contributes to the store's unique identity.
